Emergency sos – the ability to call emergency services from your phone – has been available since iOS 11 and is a great way to keep your friends and family safe. But there are some things you should know before activating it.

With the iPhone 14 lineup, Apple introduced a limited form of satellite connectivity that lets you send an emergency SOS even when you’re in a remote location and don’t have cellular coverage. The new feature, dubbed Far Out, works using Globalstar satellites to connect you with 911 dispatchers, who are able to locate your location and situation.

How to Set up Emergency sos

You can set it up in Settings by going to Safety & emergency and then selecting the option for SOS. You can also activate it by pressing the side button five times on your iPhone or tapping and holding the Emergency SOS slider.

Auto-call mode

When you activate Emergency SOS by default, a countdown starts and a loud siren-like sound will be heard. This is to give you a chance to cancel the call if it was accidentally triggered, or if there was no reason for it to be triggered in the first place.
