Citra 77 and Citrucel
Citra 77 is an all-in-one solution that removes contaminants, all rust and free iron from the surface of stainless steel products to leave them clean and bright, with a high chrome oxide level. It is formulated to be a safe, non-corrosive alternative to traditional nitric acid passivation methods. CitriSurf 77 Plus is provided in trigger sprayer bottles for application on-site where it is desired to spray the product on a local area.
The product is a liquid formula and is easily rinsed off the metal after use. However, since it is a water based conductive material, care should be taken when handling it as electrical shock can occur if it comes into contact with an energized circuit. Always wear rubber or plastic gloves when applying or wiping the product off exposed surfaces of equipment and parts. CitriSurf 77 Plus should be applied and left in contact with the surface of stainless steel for a time determined by testing to ensure it has a passivation effect (usually 15-30 minutes). The parts or area should then be rinsed with clean fresh water and allowed to dry.
A small amount of CitriSurf 77 Plus may be sprayed directly on stainless steel components for rapid cleaning. However, it is best to use a stainless steel cleaner such as Citric All-In-One or SS Cleaner before using the product to remove any lubricants, oils, grease or coatings from the part or surface.
After the surface of a component has been cleaned and passivated with CitriSurf 77 Plus, the remaining stainless steel will be protected from corrosion by the formation of a thin layer of passive film. The active layer binds with the chromium ions in the stainless steel, tying them up and keeping them from re-forming like they would in an acid bath.
Citra77 is an FDA-approved over-the-counter (OTC) treatment for occasional constipation in adults and children 6 years and older. It contains the bulk-forming agent methylcellulose fiber and works by increasing the size of your stool and encouraging your colon to push it out. Citrucel is available as an oral tablet or a liquid to be mixed in water.
